American architect Buckminster Fuller came up with the term “geodesic” after World War II (1948) when he did field tests at Black Mountain College in North Carolina. Fuller isn’t the person who came up with geodesic domes, but he is the person who made them famous in the U.S., where he got a patent in 1954.
